Propoxur 1% Big Boss Powder

A1%(W/W) powder formulation of the carbamate insecticide, propoxur (Bolfo 1% powder,Bayer Japan Ltd.) was examined for safety in dogs. Dogs were dusted with propoxur at a dose level of 20 or 50 mg/kg. No adverse reactions were observed,except anisothrombocytosis found in some dogs, a rise in aspartateaminotransferase activity in dogs treated with 20 mg/kg on day 7 after treatment and a depression of choline esterase activity in dogs treated with 50mg/kg on the following day of treatment. Anisothrombocytosis and the rise of as partate amino transferase activity were considered not to be attributable to the treatment, because the former hematological change was also observed in dogs before treatment and in control dogs, and the latter blood chemical change was not seen in dogs treated with a rather high dose level of 50 mg/kg. The depression of choilne esterase activity did not seem to be serious essentially.In conclusion, propoxur 1% powder developed no adverse effects on dogs at the usual dosage levels of 20mg/kg or so.
